Everything in one place. How we handle your privacy, how we handle returns and issues, and the terms of shopping with Dear Digi. Jump to a section below.
Privacy Policy
The short version: we only collect what we need to send you a camera and answer your messages. We never sell your personal information, we don't store your card details, and you can ask us to show, correct or delete what we hold at any time. The full detail is below.
Who we are
Dear Digi ("we", "us", "our") is a small boutique digicam store based in Australia. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit our site or buy from us, how we use it, and the choices you have. We handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles.
The information we collect
We only ever ask for what we genuinely need. Depending on how you use the site, that can include:
- What you give us: your name, email address, shipping and billing address, phone number if you provide one, order details, and anything you write to us in a message.
- Payment information: handled directly by our payment providers. We never see or store your full card number; we only receive confirmation that a payment succeeded.
- Information collected automatically: basic technical data such as your device and browser type, approximate location, the pages you view and how you arrived, gathered through cookies and similar tools to keep the site working and improve it.
How we use your information
- To process your order, take payment, and ship your camera to you.
- To send order updates: confirmations, tracking, and anything you need to know about a purchase.
- To answer your questions and provide support (we reply to every message ourselves).
- To keep the store secure and to detect and prevent fraud.
- To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
- To send occasional marketing emails, only if you've opted in, and you can unsubscribe any time.
Our store platform: Shopify
Our shop is hosted on Shopify, which powers the storefront and securely processes your order and payment data on our behalf. When you buy from us, your information is handled on Shopify's infrastructure and is subject to Shopify's own privacy practices. You can read more in the Shopify Privacy Policy.
Payments
Payments are processed securely by the provider you choose at checkout, such as Shopify Payments, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Shop Pay. Your card details are entered into their secure systems, not ours, and are governed by that provider's privacy policy. We receive only what we need to confirm and fulfil your order.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies to keep your cart working, remember your preferences (like your currency), and understand how the site is used so we can improve it. You can control or clear cookies in your browser settings; note that some parts of the store may not work properly without the essential ones.
When we share information
We never sell your personal information. We only share it where it's needed to run the store, and always with providers who are bound to protect it:
- Shopify, which hosts our store and processes orders.
- Payment providers, to take your payment securely.
- Shipping and courier partners, to deliver your order.
- Trusted service providers who help us run the business (for example email tools), only as needed.
- Authorities or advisers, where we're legally required to, or to protect our rights.
If Dear Digi is ever sold or restructured, customer information may transfer as part of that business, subject to this policy.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only as long as we need it: to fulfil your order, provide support and resolve any issue with a camera, and to meet legal, tax and accounting requirements. When it's no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.
How we protect it
We use reputable, security-conscious providers (like Shopify) and take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No method of transmission over the internet is ever completely secure, but we work hard to keep your data safe.
Your rights and choices
You can ask us at any time to:
- See the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong or out of date.
- Delete your information, where we're not required to keep it.
- Opt out of marketing emails. Every one has an unsubscribe link.
Just email us and we'll help. If you're in the UK or EU, you also have rights under the GDPR, including access, correction, erasure and portability; if you're in Australia and have a concern we can't resolve, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
Children's privacy
Our store isn't intended for children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their information, please contact us and we'll remove it.
Where your data is processed
Although we're based in Australia, some of our providers (such as Shopify) may process and store your information on servers in other countries. By using our store, you understand your information may be transferred and stored in those locations, and we take reasonable steps to ensure it stays protected.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as our store grows or the law changes. When we do, we'll revise the "last updated" date above, and significant changes will be made clear on this page.
Refund & Returns Policy
The short version: every Dear Digi camera is a pre-loved, one-of-a-kind piece, so we don't accept change-of-mind returns. Every camera is individually tested before dispatch, and what we offer is honesty before you buy and real help if something isn't right. If a camera arrives with an issue, damaged in transit, or significantly not as described, we'll put it right at our cost. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law always apply, and nothing on this page limits them.
Change of mind
We don't accept returns or exchanges for a change of mind. Each camera is unique and pre-loved, so the moment you choose it, it stops being available to anyone else. Please choose with care, and ask us anything before you buy. We're always happy to send extra photos, answer questions, or tell you honestly if a camera isn't the right fit for what you're after.
If your camera arrives with an issue
If your camera arrives damaged, isn't working as it should, or is significantly different from its listing, please get in touch within 48 hours of delivery and keep all the original packaging. We'll look into it carefully and put it right by repairing it, replacing it, or refunding you, at our cost. Where there's a major failure, the choice between a refund and a replacement is yours. You'll never be left on your own with it.
Our promise
Every Dear Digi camera is individually tested before dispatch, so you'll never receive an untested camera. Each one is cleaned and honestly described before it's packed. While vintage electronics can't be guaranteed to last forever, we'll always stand behind the accuracy of our listings and help if something isn't right when your camera arrives.
This does not affect the consumer guarantees you have by law, which we can't exclude and don't try to. See Your consumer rights below.
What to expect from a pre-loved camera
Every listing describes the camera's condition, including marks, wear and any quirks we found while testing, and the photos are of that exact camera. Visible wear, small scratches and signs of age are normal on vintage equipment and aren't faults. Rechargeable batteries are consumable. Battery performance naturally varies with age, and all included batteries are tested before dispatch.
Dear Digi Transit Protection
Standard shipping is free on every Dear Digi order within Australia. There is no postage charge at checkout, and the price you see on a listing is the price you pay. Every order is sent tracked and insured with Australia Post, requires a signature on delivery, and is protected from dispatch until it safely reaches you.
If you need your camera sooner, an express tracked option is offered at checkout for an additional cost. It is entirely optional, and the standard tracked service remains free.
If your parcel is lost or arrives damaged in transit, we'll take care of the problem so you don't have to. Please contact us within 48 hours of delivery and keep all original packaging while we sort it out, as it helps us work out what happened. We'll make it right by arranging a replacement where one is available, or an appropriate refund.
How to make a claim
Reach us through our contact page as soon as you notice an issue, ideally within a few days of delivery. To help us help you quickly, please include:
- Your order number or the email used to order.
- Which camera it is and what's wrong.
- Clear photos of the issue.
- If possible, an unedited unboxing video. It helps us resolve transit issues much faster, but it's never required for us to assist you.
We'll review it and guide you through the next steps. Please don't send anything back before hearing from us.
Return postage
If we ask you to send a camera back to us, we'll cover the return postage. We'll give you the details when we arrange it.
Refunds
Once a refund is approved, it goes back to your original payment method. Refunds are usually processed within a few business days of us receiving or assessing the camera, though it can take a little longer for the funds to appear, depending on your bank or provider.
Your consumer rights
Nothing in this policy limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Our cameras come with guarantees that cannot be excluded: they should be of acceptable quality and match their description. If there's a major failure, you may be entitled to a refund or replacement, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss.
Terms & Conditions
In short: every Dear Digi camera is individually photographed, tested, cleaned and sold exactly as described. The photos you see are of the exact camera you'll receive, with no stock images and no surprises. All prices are in Australian dollars (AUD). Cameras are sold pre-loved and individually tested, and your rights under the Australian Consumer Law always apply. The full Terms & Conditions are below.
About these Terms
These Terms & Conditions apply to your use of the Dear Digi website and to all purchases made through our store. By accessing our website or placing an order, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our website.
Using our website
You agree to use our website lawfully and respectfully. You must not interfere with the operation of the website, attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems, or misuse the website in any way. By placing an order, you confirm that you are legally capable of entering into a binding contract under Australian law.
Our cameras
Dear Digi specialises in curated digicams, from genuine vintage models to carefully chosen newer compacts, and every camera is unique. Before being listed for sale, every camera is:
- Thoroughly tested
- Professionally cleaned
- Individually photographed
- Honestly graded
The photographs displayed on each product page are of the exact camera you will receive. Any cosmetic imperfections or signs of use are clearly shown and described within the product listing.
As these are pre-loved compact cameras, some (particularly older models) may differ from the latest cameras in areas such as battery life, autofocus speed, LCD brightness, charging methods, storage media and general performance. These characteristics are part of the normal nature of these cameras and are not considered faults. Colours may appear slightly different depending on your screen or device settings.
Prices & payment
All prices are shown in Australian dollars (AUD). Payment is processed securely through our payment providers at checkout, and orders are processed once payment has been successfully authorised. Although we take great care to ensure pricing accuracy, genuine pricing or listing errors may occasionally occur. If this happens, we reserve the right to cancel the affected order and issue a full refund.
Orders
Placing an order constitutes an offer to purchase. Because every camera is one of a kind, your order is accepted once it has been prepared for dispatch. Occasionally we may need to cancel an order due to circumstances including:
- the item becoming unavailable
- pricing or listing errors
- suspected fraudulent activity
- payment issues
If an order cannot be fulfilled, any payment received will be refunded in full.
Shipping & delivery
We currently ship throughout Australia and standard shipping is free of charge. An express tracked option is available at checkout for an additional cost. All orders are sent tracked and insured with Australia Post and require a signature on delivery, are covered by Dear Digi Transit Protection from dispatch until they safely reach you, and are generally dispatched within one business day. Delivery times vary depending on your location, and once your order has been dispatched you will receive tracking information via email. If your parcel is lost or arrives damaged, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery and retain all original packaging, so we can investigate and put things right. Risk in the goods transfers to you once your order has been successfully delivered to the shipping address provided.
Issues, returns & Australian Consumer Law
Dear Digi cameras are vintage and pre-loved, and every one is individually tested before dispatch. If a camera arrives with an issue, damaged in transit, or significantly not as described, contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number, photos, and an unedited video if you have one. Once we've assessed it we will repair it, replace it with a comparable camera where possible, or refund you, at our cost. Where the failure is major, you choose between a refund and a replacement.
Because every camera is individually photographed and sold as a unique, curated piece, we do not accept returns or exchanges for change of mind.
We can't help with damage or deterioration that happens after delivery, including:
- accidental damage
- water or liquid damage
- impact damage or dropping
- misuse or neglect
- unauthorised repairs or modifications
- cosmetic damage occurring after delivery
- damage caused by improper storage or use
- normal wear of rechargeable batteries
Rechargeable batteries are consumable items and naturally lose capacity over time. Battery performance naturally varies with age, and all included batteries are tested before dispatch. Normal wear, small scratches and other cosmetic signs of age are expected on vintage equipment and are not faults.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded, including that they are of acceptable quality and match their description. Nothing on this page limits those guarantees in any way.
Accessories
Where included, accessories such as memory cards, chargers, straps, pouches or cables are supplied as complimentary or convenience items unless otherwise stated. Unless specifically advertised as new, they are supplied as-is.
Intellectual property
All content on this website, including our brand name, logo, photographs, product descriptions, graphics and written content, is owned by Dear Digi. You may not reproduce, distribute, copy or use any content without our prior written permission.
Third-party services
Our online store is powered by Shopify. Payments may be processed through services including Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and other payment providers. Your use of these services is also subject to their own terms and privacy policies.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dear Digi is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from the use of our website or products. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any rights that cannot legally be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. Our collection and handling of personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to our business or applicable laws. The latest version will always be published on this page together with the date it was last updated. By continuing to use our website after changes are published, you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Any dispute arising in connection with these Terms or your purchase will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland.
